What do I put in V55/5 box 69 list price or notional price?
Reviewed 2026-07-10
Short answer
Complete box 69 for M1 type approved vehicles only. For those vehicles, V355/5 says the application will be rejected if list price or notional price is missing.
Official position
The current V355/5 guidance says that for M1, M1G and M1SP type approved vehicles registered on or after 1 April 2017, you must provide the vehicle list price or notional price or the application will be rejected. It also says box 69 applies to M1 type approved vehicles only.
What to do
Check whether the vehicle is an M1, M1G or M1SP type approved vehicle.
Use the list price or notional price for the day before the vehicle will be taxed and registered.
Do not fill box 69 just because you know the purchase price; list price and purchase price are not always the same.
Keep evidence for the price figure with the V55/5 pack.
Common mistakes
- Leaving box 69 blank on a post-1 April 2017 M1 type approved car.
- Putting the auction hammer price or invoice price when DVLA asks for list or notional price.
- Completing box 69 for a vehicle category where the guidance says it is not needed.
