V55/5 boxes

What do I put in V55/5 box 6 make?

Reviewed 2026-07-10

Short answer

Put the vehicle make as shown in the registration or approval documents. For many vehicles it will be the same as the manufacturer, but keep it consistent with the evidence.

Official position

V355/5 separates manufacturer, make and model/full specification into boxes 5, 6 and 7. It says the details are taken from the Certificate of Conformity, IVA or GB conversion certificate where applicable.

What to do

1

Check the CoC, IVA/MSVA certificate, foreign registration document and title/export certificate.

2

Use the make wording that best matches the official vehicle evidence.

3

Keep trim, engine variant and full specification details for box 7.

4

If documents conflict, explain the mismatch rather than choosing randomly.

Common mistakes

  • Repeating a long model/trim string in the make box.
  • Using the importer brand when the vehicle evidence shows a different make.
  • Ignoring make differences between foreign papers and approval evidence.
